About The Fresh Air Club

The Fresh Air Club was set up with the aim of inspiring young people to put down their phones, move away from screens and to get out into the outdoors to experience fun and adventure, and to learn new skills.

Craig Summers was inspired to start The Fresh Air Club after he had spent eight years as a Cub Scout Leader and bushcraft instructor and had seen the huge benefits that young people gain from being in an outdoors environment. He and his wife have two young sons aged 14 and 11 and know first-hand the temptation of screens and how important it is to get kids outdoors in the fresh air, learning new skills, making new friends, experiencing new challenges and gaining confidence away from tablets, phones and games consoles.

The Fresh Air Club started with just one after-school club on a Tuesday afternoon and has now grown to encompass many more after-school clubs, holiday clubs in Bournemouth and the New Forest, curriculum based outdoor learning sessions in schools and we also now hold birthday parties for mini-bushcrafters in our own private woodland. Phew!

Craig is an experienced bushcraft leader with the Survival School NCFE Level 4 Bushcraft Instructor qualification:

  • Bushcraft, Survival and Wilderness Living Skills
  • Axe Proficiency and Charcoal Making
  • Animal Tracking
  • Foraging
  • Primitive Crafts

He also holds the GB Archery Instructors Award, Level 2 Certificate in Remote Emergency Care First Aid and Level 2 Certificate in Food Safety and Hygiene.
